The new wave in Hair Dryer technology involves marketing benefits based on Ionization. Is there any evidence for any of this though?

Conair® Turbo 1875:

"Ionic technology helps enhance your hair's natural shine and eliminates frizz for healthy-looking, smooth results. The high-torque motor speeds air through your hair for faster drying and styling while ionic technology reduces frizz and flyaways with ease."

BaByliss Pro BABP2800

"ionic technology emits negative ions eliminate static, reduces drying time."

  • I'd be curious what do they have to say about oxygen ions touching your hair. – Tomáš Zato Sep 3 at 9:06

Since water is a polar molecule, it likes to adhere to other polar molecules. Ionizing the water makes it so that it doesn't adhere to your skin or hair that easy. Here's another product that does the same thing. http://www.ohgizmo.com/2014/04/14/dry-30-seconds-body-dryer-eliminates-need-towel/

The frizziness is caused by the removal of the moisture in your hair along with the oils. The ionization would help remove the water, but since oil isnt a polar molecule, it wouldnt be affected by the treatment.
