Mar 22, 2011 at 22:07 | comment | added | BlueRaja - Danny Pflughoeft | It's also worth mentioning that the amount of vitamin D in a multivitamin is nowhere near the amount of vitamin D you'd get from half-an-hour in the sun: 400 IU in a pill (or a gallon of vitamin-D enriched milk) vs. bringing your internal-levels up-to-but-not-exceeding around 10,000 IU for half-an-hour in the sun. Most scientists believe that 400 IU is not nearly enough for those not getting enough sun, but since it is much easier to overdose on vitamin D than other vitamins, the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine only recommends 400 IU for the general case.
