Jan 9, 2019 at 15:55 comment added called2voyage @DanielRHicks I think it is a notable claim: "It could be said that the Bible is a book of history -- and it is. The Bible describes places, people, and events in various degrees of detail. It is essentially a historical account of the people of God throughout thousands of years." from carm.org/is-the-bible-trustworthy-as-a-historical-document. Should this or some proof of the claim be edited into the question? Probably, but we should give some grace to the asker since the question was asked in the early days of the site.
Jan 9, 2019 at 4:04 comment added Daniel R Hicks I realize this is a long-standing question, but I don't see any "notable claim".

Narrowed down the title to the same scope as the answer
Apr 10, 2011 at 8:30 comment added Lennart Regebro I don't agree. The question is perfectly clear and answerable. Is there anybody in the bible whose existence is supported by multiple independent sources. The answer is a resounding yes. It's perhaps not a very interesting question... :-) It would be more interesting to ask if any of the main non-kings have independent sources. That I don't know.

Apr 9, 2011 at 19:05 comment added Richard Stelling @Fabian I have altered it, however I feel the question is self limiting. If they are historical characters then they fit in to the bounds of the question if they are not mentioned anywhere but the bible we can ignore them.

Apr 9, 2011 at 18:57 comment added Mad Scientist There are thousands of people mentioned in the bible, please restrict the question, as it is asked now it is just far too broad.
