I may as well toss my hat in the ring. I am not a moderator here (although I am over at Astronomy, but they are closing), but I have been with the site ever since Dr. Phil Plait directed me over here. I have visited the site daily since then. I strive for fairness and impartiality when evaluating what others are writing. In particular, I do try to let any claim pass, and let the references speak to the validity of the answer (or question).

I am a member of numerous skeptical communities online (JREF, RatSkep, BA) as well as in real life (Granite State Skeptics). My goals for wanting to be a moderator here is to enable (advocate for) an easier first time user experience. Keep the community open and inviting. Encourage new users to come here and use this site as a resource for not only answering their questions, but also as a site that people can go to and research a topic and get a good start on finding those reliable resources.

I am a moderator over on Security Stack Exchange, have been fairly involved in a range of SEI sites since January 2011, and a member here for just over a year.

I approach moderation in a very fair and mediatory manner:

• I provide gentle steer where necessary through comments
• I follow the community lead when flagged
• I review unanswered and outdated questions
• Where necessary I wield the mod hammer - but only as a last resort

Here on Skeptics I have nowhere near the quality/number of answers that the usual suspects have, but am still almost at 2k rep - I am very interested in scientific facts and evidence based research and most of the questions here are of interest to me so I am involved.

I think the existing mods do a grand job, but if you want someone with 16 months moderation experience I could be that person.

I've been a contributing member here for a little over 5 months but I lurked for about 2 months before I made an account to make sure I got a feel for the community and rules before I tried to contribute. I am very interested in keeping the quality high, that is what makes this site so great, but it requires some work. I am not the best at writing answers so I started contributing in other ways to improve this site. I started editing and re-tagging to improve questions and answers. I have the most edits for a non-mod user mostly as a result of my efforts to clean up the "sex" and "nuclear" tag, which were determined on meta to be invalid. I'm also one of three users with the deputy badge. As a mod I strongly believe in "guide the community with gentle — but firm — intervention" and "The ideal moderator does as little as possible." Being welcoming and respectful is also an extremely important for community leaders. I'm not a mod elsewhere and I am not very active across the SE network, for what it is worth. I am just mostly interested in this site.

I'm one of the current pro-tempore moderators on Skeptics, but I'm also active across the SE network, mostly on Gaming, Meta.SO and also on Biology where I'm a moderator, too. My main interest in the site is on scientific topics, pseudoscience needs to be debunked at every opportunity.

I'm very familiar with the moderation process and the moderator tools here at Stack Exchange as I've been moderating this site now for over a year.

As far as my opinions on the different Skeptics policies go, I think we're heading into the right direction, though they might need some polishing in various areas, especially in making the site friendlier to new users without compromising the quality of our content.

Here are some things about myself :)

• I have a scientific mind. While I only have an Undergrad, I graduated with a BSc in Physics and Computer Science

• I have all the best OCD tendencies, which means it fundamentally bothers me to see badly formatted posts, questions without accepted answers, and unresolved flags and edits.

• I have a good feel for grassroots skepticism and distinguishing good references from bad ones.

• I'm a happy guy. I see no point in participating in a community, however professional and rigorous we strive to be, unless we can make friends and enjoy ourselves while we do it, and I try to bring that to all my questions, answers, and comments.

I should be upfront about my sporatic participation. I tend to spend most of my time over at stackoverflow, but for some reason my contributions on Skeptics seem to be much more well-received, so maybe it's a sign that I should give up computers and go back to my roots in science.

While I could never compete with the breadth of participation we see from Sklivvz and Oddthinking on a daily bases, I have the skills and good nature it takes to be a constructive and effective moderator for Skeptics. 2K

I passionately believe that this community makes the internet a better place.

To make this more than a belief, we need to hold ourselves to the highest standards. This is an uphill battle, but I think that we have succeeded pretty well: the quality of the questions and answers on this site is unrivalled by almost all other sites on the internet^{[citation needed]}.

Unfortunately, this requires more intervention than on the other Stack Exchange sites.

Nevertheless my goal is to keep meddling actions to a minimum, and for the community to act itself.

• deletion of valuable comment discussions (but moving them to a chat is fine!)

• editing to improve
• downvoting, and leaving comments
• improving the user experience
