comment Do victims of rape have biological defenses that prevent pregnancy?
@AlanSE I think there might be some confusion from overload of the term "domestic violence". I don't think they mean forced pregnancy in an adult relationship: "Among 34 cases of rape-related pregnancy, the majority occurred among adolescents and resulted from assault by a known, often related perpetrator."

I downvoted, but am now trying to edit the post to include @DJClayworth's link as a notable claim. If the edit goes through I think this would become a good question, as evidenced by the good answers already cropping up.

comment Were Kinsey's studies debunked?
+1 For bringing up a point regarding Kinsey's research, but reluctantly. This answer needs to be expanded beyond a straight quote, and ideally give some context per Charles' points. But I'm glad that I'm aware that Kinsey had trouble getting what we would consider now to be good survey data.

comment Can a blow to the base of the neck cause unconsciousness? (i.e., “Karate…CHOP!”)
There have been a number of knockouts in MMA due to big looping punches that land at the back of the neck, or behind the ear. For instance, I believe this is how dos Santos took out Velasquez. I don't think this is what you're asking about, but it kind of matches the term "base of the neck".

comment Are media's portrayals of physical perfection a contributing cause of eating disorders?
I don't think the claim is that pictorial representations in the media are the only cause of body image issues, just that they are part of a complete breakfast of culture. So one case of a blind gal with anorexia doth not disprove the claim. Interesting info on the hypothalamus, though.

While true and despicable, I don't think this is pertinent to the question.

comment Does performing an additional weightlifting set not increase progress by more than 5%?
Looking for scientific research in the realm of lifting is usually a fool's errand. Methodology is so poor and the state of research so weak that the best approach is to try it yourself or ask someone with experience, as described by Kurtis Frank.

comment Can the Taliban detect drone targets with a camcorder?
@Christopher What evidence on skeptics.SE is unfalsifiable? Wouldn't that make it invalid, per Popperian standards? The question can be answered to a reasonable degree of confidence. I think it should stay.
