Can one use microfiber cloths and products to “clean without chemicals”? You also need to consider how the silver nanoparticles are bound to the cloth - it's entirely possible that the silver will be washed away with the first (or subsequent) wash(es). |

Are sunscreens necessary? @Oddthinking I see that now, for whatever reason it wasn't visible in my browser. |

Are sunscreens necessary? @Muhd Which chemicals are being questioned in sunscreens? If you can come up with a reliable source that infers that the components of the sunscreen are toxic, I'd be happy to take a look at it. |

Does diet affect the taste of semen? I can only say from personal anecdotal experience that yes, diet does influence the taste - but what is 'good or bad' tasting is subjective to the tastee. Unless we find a porn star who has kept a diary, we're not likely to find anyone with a (pardon the pun) sample size large enough to be relevant. |

Was the “hole in the ozone” caused by CFCs? Reference to the above: Chemistry and the Environment, S.E. Harnung and M. S. Johnson. |

Was the “hole in the ozone” caused by CFCs? Ozone depletion is a 4 step process which has a dark/light phase and occurs in the stratosphere. In darkness, phase 1: there is a formation of polar and stratospheric clouds of HNO3 and H2O, which in phase 2 spurs the activation of Clx compounds (ClONO2, HOCl, N2O5, HCl) which produces Cl2 and HOCl. In the spring sun, those compounds react with light to form ClOx compounds: Cl2 + hv -> 2Cl, HOCl + hv -> OH + Cl, Cl + O3 -> ClO + O2, which in step four cause catalytic ozone depletion: ClO + ClO -> Cl2O2, Cl2O2 + hv -> 2Cl + O2, Cl + O3 -> ClO + O2 which continues cycling and consuming O3. |

Can GAPS diet cure autism, schizophrenia and dyslexia? Yeah - just saying 're-establishing normal gut flora' - well - what is 'normal gut flora'? Are we talking about the bacteria in the large or small intestine? Then there's the claim of, "Because it is well known now that bottle fed babies develop completely different gut flora to the breast fed babies" without a source for said claim. |

Do Volatile Organic Compounds from common household fixtures pose a threat to infants? There are plenty of other studies which link IAQ to adverse health effects such as asthma, etc in children. Beofett wanted something specific to infants. |

Do Americans use three times as much toilet paper as Europeans? @Oddthinking Only when I go camping - but then I bring the non-bleached type with me, since it's more environmentally friendly. |

Is there an autism epidemic? Both A and B, in my opinion. We're seeing more autism because we're LOOKING for it more. It's also a topic which is well funded - and you have to have funding to do research. I think it's also terribly short-sighted of people to focus on one 'cause' of a problem and not try to think 'outside the shot'. If I had the funding, I'd like to examine the rates/histories/occurrences of pharmaceuticals and POP's in our waters/soils. |
